Today Charmed reaches a milestone:

Longest Running Series In Television History Featuring Female Leads

According to the Museum of Television & Radio, “Charmed”  will surpass the long running comedy series
“Laverne & Shirley,” which ran for 7 seasons, on January 22, 2006 [with 169 episodes].  “It’s a remarkable accomplishment, especially when you consider that when we premiered eight years ago, nobody thought we’d even make it to 22 episodes!  It’s something we’re all immensely proud of,” said executive producer Brad Kern.

Cheers!

There was an interview with Brad Kern about season 9, it pretty much boils down to this:

  • “The budget ax swung very deeply in bringing us back [for this season]“
  • There’ll very likely wont be a 9th season, however nothing official
  • “Any spin-off is still an option” (maybe one with Billie?)

The official Charmed magazine writes:

Rose McGowan has already stated that with her Charmed contract up at the end of the season, she’s ready to move on. And now Alyssa Milano reveals the same sentiment. “I’m only contracted for eight seasons, so there definitely won’t be a ninth year for me,” she says. “I’ll miss it. I’ll miss everyone, my family here - the girls, my crew. It’s been an amazing experience.”…..

….”I would definitely consider doing another series,” she replies. “Honestly, I think television has the best material out there right now. It’s totally exceeding what the film industry is doing. So I’d definitely consider going back to TV. I think it will take me awhile to actually commit to something. Charmed has been eight years of my life. That’s a long time. I think I’m going to take a long break, maybe do a couple of movies. And then I’d reassess.”

There are also rumors about a spin off with Billie

Season 9 Official News

More news about Season 9 have become available:

New York Daily published yesterday an article about Charmed’s next season, featuring an inverview with The WB’s entertainment president David Janollari. It was said that Charmed is one of the shows which receives special support from the network. It might be that the show will run for just a little longer. Janollari said that he’ll have a closer look at it in May and added that Charmed indeed is one of the more expensive (and more successful) shows of the network, just like 7th - Heaven which wont be renewed, but that you can’t put Charmed in the same category as 7th Heaven.

In other words, there still hope for the show though not necessarily much.
